Wike Declares End to "Groundnut Politics" After FCT Polls

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, announced the conclusion of "groundnut politics" after the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victory in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council elections. Speaking during a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu, Wike highlighted that the election results reflected the true political stance of the parties in the nation's capital.

He noted that residents of the FCT made their choices based on the performance of the parties rather than public stunts. The elections indicated that the APC won five area councils, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured one.

Wike criticized the deceptive campaign tactics used by some politicians, stating that the electorate could no longer be misled by superficial gestures. He praised the conduct of the elections as a sign of the growing maturity of Nigeria's democratic process and emphasized the need for political leaders to be accountable to the citizens.
