Edo Youths Disrupt Deputy Speaker Atu's Campaign Event

On Friday, during a campaign event for re-election organized by Deputy Speaker Osamwonyi Atu of the Edo State House of Assembly in Orhionmwon Local Government Area, tensions escalated as hundreds of youths disrupted the rally. The protestors, carrying banners, openly rejected the campaign, expressing anger over the lawmaker's failure to deliver on promises made during the 2023 elections.

They highlighted ongoing electricity issues and incomplete school projects that have disappointed residents for the past 15 years. The atmosphere became chaotic, prompting increased security presence to prevent further escalation.

Deputy Speaker Atu dismissed claims linking the protest to unrest over a recent anti-cultism law, suggesting that the protest was politically motivated by rival aspirants aiming to tarnish his image ahead of the elections. Despite the disruption, campaign organizer Martin Ozakpolor claimed that Atu had made a visible impact in the constituency, citing completed school projects.
