Akwa Ibom Government Denies Plans to Sell Ibom Power

The Akwa Ibom State government, under the leadership of Governor Umo Eno, has officially refuted allegations made by a Uyo-based tabloid that it intends to sell the state-owned Ibom Power Company. Aniekan Umanah, in a statement issued on Thursday, described the claims as false and malicious, urging the public to disregard them.

The government clarified that there has never been any approval for the sale of the company, which is part of ongoing sector reform efforts. Governor Eno's administration is focused on repaying a $9 million loan obtained from Afreximbank, which is part of a strategy to rescue and sustain the operations of Ibom Power Company.

The government has committed to a structured quarterly repayment of $560,000, with a goal to stabilize and preserve the long-term value of the company. Additionally, the administration is aware of current power outages affecting parts of the state and is engaging relevant institutions to resolve these issues.
