PDP Denies Claims of Barriers for Presidential Aspirants

The Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) issued a statement denying allegations that any presidential aspirants were barred from obtaining nomination forms ahead of the party's presidential primaries. Spokesman Ini Ememobong described these claims as false, asserting that all interested aspirants are free to purchase and submit their forms within the approved timeframe.

The party recently extended the deadline for purchasing and submitting forms to May 22, 2026, following appeals from party members. The special screening for candidates is scheduled for May 23, 2026.

The faction clarified that while the party has zoned its presidential ticket to the South, no provision in the Nigerian constitution prevents individuals from contesting for elected office. Ememobong reiterated that forms are available during the specified period.

The faction plans to screen former President Goodluck Jonathan, who is the sole presidential aspirant, but has waived the screening requirement for him and former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu.
