No Movement Restrictions During Lagos Sanitation Exercise

Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, clarified that there is no restriction on movement during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Lagos State. This statement was made in response to an inquiry from an X user, #Faveo Autos, regarding fines and alleged arrests at the Ikeja Police Station for movement during the exercise.

Wahab emphasized that any arrests made on this basis are unlawful and do not align with the state government's policies. He explained that the sanitation exercise was reintroduced to promote environmental cleanliness, supported by the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017, which does not impose movement restrictions.

The commissioner highlighted the government's aim to encourage residents to view environmental sanitation as a civic duty rather than relying solely on enforcement measures.
