NOA Director Advocates for Accurate Media Reporting

On a recent occasion in Abuja, Mr. Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), called on media professionals to focus on depth, accuracy, and fact-based reporting in the national interest.

He made these remarks while receiving a delegation from the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ), led by its National President, Malam Abdulrahman Aliagan. Issa-Onilu highlighted the crucial role of investigative journalism as a tool for reorienting democracy and fostering national development.

He expressed concern over the steady decline of investigative journalism across the country, noting that this erosion of depth and accuracy contributes to misinformation and social division. He pointed out that a lack of understanding of electoral processes among citizens often leads to misinformation and unhealthy public discourse.

To address these issues, Issa-Onilu pledged the agency's support for NGIJ and proposed collaboration to enhance public enlightenment campaigns and counter misinformation, reinforcing the accountability of the government.
