NOA DG Urges Media to Emphasize Investigative Journalism

On a recent occasion in Abuja, Mr. Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), called on media professionals to return to depth, accuracy, and fact-based reporting in the national interest.

He made these remarks while receiving a delegation from the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ), led by its National President, Malam Abdulrahman Aliagan. Issa-Onilu described investigative journalism as a vital instrument for national reorientation and democratic growth, asserting its critical role in promoting fair and balanced information that compels government accountability.

He expressed concern over the steady decline of investigative journalism across the country, highlighting its impact on misinformation and social division. He pledged NOA's support for NGIJ and proposed the establishment of a joint committee to identify areas for collaboration, focusing on public enlightenment campaigns and countering misinformation.

This partnership aims to strengthen investigative journalism and enhance civic education, ultimately empowering citizens with credible information to hold public institutions accountable.
