Journalists Urged to Promote Peaceful Reporting in Nigeria

During an iftar gathering in Kaduna, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, the Country Director of Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, called on journalists to embrace responsible and peaceful reporting as a means to transform the nation.

The event, co-organized by the Global Peace Foundation Nigeria and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna State Council, highlighted the significance of unity during the Ramadan fasting period, which coincides with the Christian season of Lent. Rev.

Hayab stressed that the media's role extends beyond merely reporting events; it should facilitate dialogue and promote peace. He urged journalists to avoid sensational reporting that incites fear and division, advocating instead for accuracy and ethical journalism.

Key areas for journalists to focus on include giving a voice to marginalized communities and promoting dialogue across ethnic, religious, and political lines. Comrade Abdul Gaffar Alabelew, chairman of the NUJ Kaduna Council, expressed gratitude for the event, marking a historic moment for the council.
