LP Candidate Okereke Rejects Anti-Tinubu Consensus Plan

Dr. Chibuzo Okereke, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has publicly rejected the notion of forming an opposition consensus presidential candidate aimed solely at defeating President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections. In an exclusive interview with Nigerian Tribune, Okereke described such an arrangement as strategically weak and detrimental to Nigeria's democratic development.

He emphasized that any genuine opposition collaboration should be based on a clearly defined policy agenda and governance vision, rather than merely uniting against the incumbent. Okereke expressed that the proposed G100 initiative should focus on mobilizing Nigerians for active electoral participation.

He argued against selecting a single candidate from the 21 already nominated by various political parties, stressing the importance of respecting each party's constitutional structures. He warned that undemocratic processes could lead to distrust among parties and maintained that the Nigerian electorate should ultimately decide the outcome of any political arrangements.

Okereke also dismissed the idea of legally compelling candidates to withdraw in favor of a consensus candidate.
