Coalition Calls for Unified Opposition Ahead of 2027 Elections

A coalition has initiated “the Doctrine of a Necessary Democratic Opposition” to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections. Endorsed by notable figures such as Salihu Lukman and Hon.

Nnena Ukeje, the initiative addresses the fragmentation of the opposition and the weakening of democratic accountability. The coalition emphasizes that Nigeria's crises are structural, requiring a united opposition to hold the government accountable and provide credible alternatives.

Prominent opposition leaders, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, are called to negotiate a united front, as a divided opposition cannot effectively challenge the ruling party. The G100 coalition warns against personal ambitions that could lead to defeat and plans to convene a National Council of Opposition Leaders within two weeks to develop a common strategy and identify a single presidential candidate.

The initiative aims to safeguard democratic competition and strengthen institutions without promoting any individual candidate.
