Nollywood Actor Alex Ekubo Passes Away at 40

Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has died at the age of 40 after a battle with liver cancer. His death occurred on Monday night at Evercare Hospital in Lekki, Lagos, and was confirmed by Boma Akpor, a former Big Brother Naija star and director.

The Actor Guild of Nigeria expressed their condolences, with Godwin Nnadiekw mourning Ekubo on Instagram, describing the news as devastating and unbelievable. Veteran filmmaker Izu Ojukwu recalled giving Ekubo his first movie role, highlighting his significant impact on the industry.

Tributes poured in from colleagues and fans, including notable figures such as Funk Akindele, Bolanle Ninalowo, and Peter Okoye, who fondly referred to him as "Mi Ekubo." Born on April 10, 1986, in Port Harcourt, River State, Ekubo was known for his charisma and strong screen presence, becoming a recognizable face in Nollywood over the past decade. In 2020, he was named one of the most influential people of African descent by the United Nations for his contributions to entertainment and social development.
