Northern Senators Mourn Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji's Death

Northern senators expressed deep sadness over the death of Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, the Sardauna of Sokoto, who passed away on Thursday in Abuja at the age of 91 after a brief illness. The statement, signed by Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, chairman of the Northern Senators’ Forum, conveyed their heavy hearts upon receiving the news.

Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji's life was marked by patriotism and community service, having served Nigeria in various capacities, including Minister of State for Budget and Planning in 1988, Minister of Finance from 1990 to 1991, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 1992 to 1996. As a career civil servant, he rose to the position of Permanent Secretary, demonstrating integrity and diligence.

The senators remembered him as a bridge-builder and an accomplished administrator, praying for his soul and offering condolences to his family, the Sokoto Caliphate, and the nation.
