Northern Governors Demand N1bn Monthly Fund for Security

The Northern State Governor Forum, chaired by Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, has called for a monthly allocation of N1 billion to strengthen security across northern Nigeria. This demand was made during an open session of the forum held in Abuja on Monday.

The governors highlighted the ongoing impacts of banditry and terrorism in the region, which have resulted in significant loss of life and displacement of citizens. While acknowledging some progress made by Nigeria's security agencies, the forum warned against complacency and stressed the need for coordinated and decisive action.

The governors noted that states like Nasarawa, Gombe, Borno, Kebbi, and Kaduna have already begun fulfilling their commitments to the Northern State Security Trust Fund. The forum aims to establish a robust security architecture and has committed to contributing N1 billion monthly to this fund.

Yahaya also discussed the importance of creating a state police framework to address local security challenges effectively.
