Northern Governors Support Tinubu on Security Initiatives

On March 30, 2023, governors from 19 northern states convened at the Gombe State Governor's Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, under the Northern Governors Forum, chaired by Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya. They reaffirmed their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's efforts to tackle insecurity and drive development across the northern region.

A communiqué issued at the end of their deliberations emphasized the need for sustained collaboration with federal security agencies to address evolving security threats in northern Nigeria. The governors urged Nigerian support for the armed forces and security agencies in restoring peace and stability.

They highlighted plans to strengthen internal structures and institute reforms aimed at improving policy coordination and implementation. Additionally, the governors committed to exploring ways to enhance internal revenue generation by identifying untapped taxable sources.

This meeting occurred amid ongoing security challenges, including banditry and kidnappings in Kaduna and Plateau states, prompting calls for increased federal intervention.
