Northern Governors Express Sympathy for Kano Market Fire Victims

Northern governors, under the leadership of Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the chairman of the Northern States Governors' Forum (NSGF) and governor of Gombe State, expressed their condolences to the victims of the recent fire at Singer Market in Kano State. This incident, which occurred just a week after a similar outbreak, has caused significant emotional trauma and financial loss to already vulnerable traders.

Governor Yahaya lamented the recurring incidents of market fires across the northern region, noting their detrimental impact on livelihoods and economic activities, which exacerbate family hardships. He called for urgent, comprehensive, and technology-driven preventive measures from both state and federal authorities, suggesting the deployment of modern fire detection and suppression systems, improved market infrastructure, and stricter enforcement of safety regulations.

Yahaya also praised the swift response of the Kano State Fire Service and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), as well as the good Samaritans who intervened to contain the blaze. He extended heartfelt condolences to the affected individuals and urged them not to lose hope in the face of this devastating setback.
