Tinubu: Northern Nigeria to Gain from Economic Reforms

President Bola Tinubu declared that Northern Nigeria will emerge as the primary beneficiary of his administration's economic reforms during a speech delivered by Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at the Policy Roundtable organized by the APC Professionals Forum. Tinubu, who assumed office on May 29, 2023, addressed the challenges inherited, including fuel subsidy distortions and inadequate infrastructure investment.

He reported that Nigeria's gross external reserves rose to approximately $52.7 billion by August 2026, with non-oil revenue increasing from ₦13.63 trillion in 2023 to ₦16.4 trillion in early 2026. Merchandise trade improved significantly, and real GDP grew by 4.43% in the second quarter of 2026.

Tinubu emphasized that Northern Nigeria would benefit from improved infrastructure and trade networks due to its proximity to several countries in the Sahel and Central Africa, positioning it as a key business destination.
