Senator Buba Umar Denies Terrorism Sponsorship Claims

Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing the South Senatorial District, has made himself available for questioning by three security agencies, including the Defence Intelligence Agency and the DSS, over allegations of sponsoring bandits and financing terrorism. On September 15, he addressed journalists and constituents, denying the allegations and challenging accusers to present evidence to authorities instead of sharing unverified material online.

Buba's legal team, led by Chief Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, is facilitating his cooperation with the agencies. He stated that these accusations date back to 2014 but have intensified since he announced his intention to run for the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Redemption Party.

Buba also mentioned that his previous role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence has been misrepresented. His legal team has initiated defamation proceedings and submitted a petition to INTERPOL against one of his accusers based in Niger Republic.

He urged supporters to remain calm and called for a transparent investigation.
