Northern Youths Condemn Police Sealing of ACF Headquarters

The Joint Action Committee of Northern Youth Associations (JACON) issued a statement on Thursday in Kaduna condemning the sealing of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) headquarters by the police. Muhammad Isa, the director of public strategy and communication for JACON, described the police action as unconstitutional and an abuse of power, asserting that it violated constitutional rights and due process.

The group expressed solidarity with the ACF, warning that such actions could undermine democratic principles and civic freedoms. JACON called on the Inspector General of Police to investigate the incident and sanction the officers involved.

They urged ACF leadership to seek legal redress against the Nigerian police force regarding the sealing of their office. Furthermore, JACON demanded the immediate reopening of the ACF headquarters and cautioned that continued suppression of legitimate civic organizations could trigger a peaceful democratic response from northern youth.

The Kaduna State Police Command stated that their actions were aimed at preventing a potential breakdown of law and order.
