Northerners Will Not Vote Atiku for 2027, Says Sani

Anthony Sani, the former Secretary General of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), indicated that major northern voters will not support Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), in the 2027 elections. Sani's comments were made during a discussion with Daily Post, where he highlighted the importance of protecting the political identity of the north for the 2031 elections.

He noted that the opposition is currently fragmented, with splits among the PDP, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and the Labour Party, which contributed to Bola Tinubu's rise in the 2023 elections. Sani mentioned that both Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, have differing views on the tenure of the presidency, which could further complicate the opposition landscape.

He stressed the necessity for a viable alternative platform for the opposition in Nigeria ahead of the general elections.
