ADC Candidates in Northwest Nigeria Sign Development Compact

On Wednesday, the seven governorship candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Northwest Nigeria signed the Northwest ADC Governorship Candidates’ Compact 2027–2031. The candidates—Sabo Mohammed Nakudu (Jigawa), Isa Mohammed Ashiru (Kaduna), Ibrahim Ali Amin (Kano), Ahmad Babba Kaita (Katsina), Abubakar Malami SAN (Kebbi), Manir Muhammad Dan’iya (Sokoto), and Bilyaminu Shinkafi (Zamfara)—aim to tackle insecurity, poverty, food insecurity, unemployment, and weak human development through coordinated action.

They established a Central Coordination Committee chaired by Rt Hon Abdussamad Dasuki, a Technical Committee led by Maj Gen Aminu Bande (rtd), and a Media and Strategic Communications Committee co-chaired by Salihu Tanko Yakasai. The Compact emphasizes a common governance framework for the 2027 elections, addressing security, agriculture, education, healthcare, youth employment, and infrastructure.

It acknowledges the interconnectedness of regional issues, citing over 16,000 fatalities and 1,583 kidnappings in the Northwest since January 2023. The Compact aims for collaborative governance while respecting individual state responsibilities.
