ADC Candidates in Northwest Pledge to Restore Fuel Subsidy

On September 9, 2026, governorship candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from the seven Northwest states of Nigeria announced their commitment to restore the fuel subsidy, implement a ₦110,000 minimum wage, and establish a regional security architecture if elected in 2027. This declaration was made during the signing of the “Northwest ADC Governorship Candidates’ Compact 2027–2031” in Abuja, read by Kebbi State governorship candidate Abubakar Malami, SAN.

The candidates include Sabo Mohammed Nakudu (Jigawa), Isa Mohammed Ashiru (Kaduna), Ibrahim Ali Amin (Kano), Ahmad Babba Kaita (Katsina), Abubakar Malami (Kebbi), Manir Muhammad Dan’iya (Sokoto), and Bilyaminu Shinkafi (Zamfara). They highlighted the severe insecurity and poverty in the region, citing over 16,000 lives lost to insecurity from June 2023 to August 2026 and over 1,583 kidnapping incidents since January 2023.

The candidates criticized the impact of the APC-led Federal Government's removal of the fuel subsidy, stating it has exacerbated poverty. They also proposed a technology-enabled security network across the region's senatorial districts.
