Norway Backs FIFA Complaint Against Infantino's Neutrality

The Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) has officially lent its support to a complaint lodged against FIFA President Gianni Infantino concerning a potential breach of political neutrality. NFF President Lise Klaveness announced this support on Tuesday, following a letter sent to FIFA's ethics committee by the human rights group FairSquare.

The complaint is rooted in Infantino's decision to present the first-ever FIFA Peace Prize to former U.S. President Donald Trump during the December 2026 World Cup draw, raising concerns that this award may contravene FIFA's commitment to political neutrality.

Klaveness acknowledged the political reactions that may arise from this decision and expressed NFF's readiness to travel to the tournament. She emphasized the importance of raising this issue during discussions held in Budapest over the weekend.

Norway has chosen to lodge its letter independently, despite claims that the football federation has privately supported the complaint. The NFF is now awaiting a decision from the ethics committee regarding whether an investigation into Infantino's conduct will proceed.
