Kwara United's Ashifat Suleiman Blames Sanctions for Struggles

Ashifat Suleiman, the technical adviser of Kwara United, explained that the club's relegation struggles during the 2025/26 season were significantly influenced by sanctions imposed after a pitch invasion by supporters. Following the incident during a rescheduled matchday 22 fixture against Rivers United in Ilorin, Kwara United was fined N9 million and had three points deducted from their total.

Additionally, the club was mandated to play its remaining home fixtures at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta. Suleiman stated that these sanctions placed immense financial pressure on the club, as they had to compensate for the lost points while also incurring travel costs instead of benefiting from home advantage.

He emphasized that the challenges faced by the club due to the sanctions adversely affected the team's performance, contributing to their struggles throughout the season. Ultimately, Kwara United managed to survive relegation on the final day of the season.
