NPFL Honors Late Henri Nwosu with Tribute This Weekend

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has ordered a tribute for the late Henri Nwosu, a former captain of the Green Eagles, who died at the age of 62. NPFL chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye directed that a minute of silence be observed at the kickoff of matches during the weekend's fixtures to honor Nwosu's contributions to Nigerian football.

Nwosu's passing was confirmed in a statement made available on Saturday, following his death at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja after spending several days in intensive care. Elegbeleye expressed that Nwosu's death is a significant loss to the country's club football community, noting his long-standing personal relationship with the sport.

Nwosu was a key player in Nigeria's squad that won the 1980 African Cup of Nations and later contributed to the development of domestic football as a coach. His former teammate, Segun Odegbami, revealed that Nwosu spent five days battling illness before passing away early Saturday morning.
