NFF Sanctions Clubs and Referee Over Match Incidents

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) disciplinary committee convened on March 3, 2026, to review protests related to recent league match incidents. Gomb Unit FC was fined N1 million after a match against Jigawa Golden Star FC on December 21, 2025, where a central referee initially awarded a goal kick but changed the decision to a penalty kick under crowd pressure.

The referee, Terwas Chia, was suspended for the remainder of the season for professional misconduct. Jigawa Golden Star FC was fined N500,000 for abandoning the match, which concluded with a 0-0 result.

Additionally, Wikki Tourist FC was fined N2 million for inadequate security during a match against Katsina United FC on February 8, 2026, where unauthorized individuals entered the field. Kwara United FC also faced a N2 million fine for crowd disturbances during a match against Rivers United FC on February 18, 2026, along with a three-point deduction and a five-match stadium ban.
