NPFL Suspended for Two Weeks to Focus on Federation Cup

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has announced a two-week suspension to allow clubs to concentrate on the Federation Cup. This break is intended to give teams time to fulfill their domestic cup commitments, with league fixtures scheduled to resume once state-level matches are completed.

The state preliminary rounds of the Federation Cup began in March and are set to conclude on April 26, when representatives for the next round will be confirmed. The revised league calendar indicates that matchday 36 will take place on May 3, followed by matchday 37 on May 10, as the season approaches its conclusion.

The Nigeria Football Federation has emphasized strict compliance with the Federation Cup fixtures, warning clubs that failure to honor matches could result in penalties, including a fine of 500,000 Naira. The Federation Cup, Nigeria's oldest football competition, allows grassroots teams to compete alongside top-flight sides, producing two representatives for the national stage.
