NPSA Urges Ambassadors to Tackle Diplomatic Challenges

The Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA) has expressed concerns regarding the state of Nigeria's diplomatic missions abroad and has called on the nation's 65 newly appointed ambassadors to prepare for the challenges ahead. In a statement signed by NPSA President Prof. Hassan Saliu, the association highlighted the importance of developing effective strategies to navigate both official and unofficial structures in the countries where they are accredited.

The NPSA urged ambassadors to pursue economic diplomacy, particularly in light of recent controversial agreements, such as the one signed between the UK and Nigeria regarding port development. The statement emphasized that public opinion plays a minimal role in shaping Nigeria's foreign policy and warned that ambassadors must be prepared for a challenging environment, including budget constraints and potential diplomatic friction.

The NPSA reminded ambassadors of their primary responsibility to defend Nigeria's interests and citizens abroad, stressing the need for proactive engagement rather than merely supporting controversial policies.
