NRC Denies Abuja-Kaduna Train Derailment, NSIB Probes

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has denied reports of a derailment involving a passenger train on the Abuja-Kaduna route, clarifying that the train remained firmly on track throughout the incident. The NRC stated that the event occurred when a rear locomotive detached from the train and rolled forward, striking the rear portion of the train.

This incident took place around 09:16 hours along the Jere-Asham section near Asham station in Kaduna State. The train, identified as KA2, had departed Rigasa railway station at 07:15 and was scheduled to arrive at Idu station in Abuja.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced an investigation to gather evidence and analyze the circumstances surrounding the incident, examining technical, operational, and infrastructural factors. Captain Alex Badeh Jr., Director General of NSIB, expressed concern for the affected passengers and emphasized the bureau's commitment to uncovering the facts behind the incident to ensure safer railway operations in Nigeria.
