NRC Prioritizes Mental Health and Workplace Safety Initiatives

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has reaffirmed its commitment to staff welfare and workplace safety, coinciding with the observance of World Day for Safety and Health at Work. Callistus Unyimadu, the Chief Public Relations Officer, and Managing Director Kayode Opeifa emphasized the year's theme of fostering a good psychosocial work environment, which is essential for employee well-being and organizational strength.

Opeifa addressed the operational demands of railway work, which include long shifts and night duties, acknowledging the associated physical and mental strain. He warned that stress and fatigue could heighten safety risks, particularly for train drivers and technicians.

The NRC plans to improve working conditions and support employee welfare through its 2026 action plan, which includes expanding access to medical services and emphasizing mental health support. Opeifa urged employees to seek help for emotional challenges and to promote a safer work environment, highlighting that safety encompasses not just equipment but also the well-being of personnel.
