NRC Urges Abuja-Kaduna Communities to Enhance Train Security

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has called on communities along the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor to take an active role in securing trains and railway facilities. This appeal follows a series of attacks and vandalism incidents that have escalated in recent weeks.

The NRC condemned these acts, which include stone-pelting at moving trains, leading to damage to train windscreens. The latest incident occurred around kilometer 177 along the corridor.

In the past two weeks, similar attacks have been reported in locations such as Gidan Busa, Sarki Gora Village, and Kakau District in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The NRC expressed deep concern over these developments, which pose serious dangers to railway operations and personnel.

They noted that there have been six recorded locations of such attacks, worsening existing challenges. Despite these unfortunate developments, the NRC continues to operate trains with necessary safety precautions, demonstrating a commitment to ensuring passenger safety and maintaining critical railway infrastructure.
