NRC Calls for Community Support Against Train Attacks

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has condemned the increasing attacks on its train operations along the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor, as articulated by Mr. Callistus Unyimadu, the Chief Public Relations Officer.

In a statement released on Sunday, Unyimadu noted that the latest incident occurred around kilometer 177, where unknown individuals gathered along the tracks and threw stones at a moving train, damaging its windscreen. This incident is part of a troubling trend, with six similar attacks reported in the last two weeks across various locations, including Gidan Busa and Sarki Gora Village in Kakau District, Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

These attacks pose serious dangers to railway operations and personnel. The NRC emphasized that such acts not only endanger lives but also damage critical railway infrastructure, constituting economic sabotage that could disrupt national transport and undermine significant federal investments in the railway sector.

The NRC is committed to ensuring safe train operations and has called on local communities to support efforts to protect railway infrastructure and report suspicious activities.
