NRC suspends Abuja-Kaduna train services after derailment

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has suspended train services on the Abuja-Kaduna corridor following a derailment incident on Sunday. NRC Managing Director Kayode Opeifa confirmed the suspension during a press briefing in Abuja, emphasizing that services will remain halted until investigations are completed and safety is assured.

A technical team from NRC and the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) are on the scene to determine the cause of the derailment and implement preventive measures. Opeifa refuted claims of poor maintenance, stating that the corporation upholds safety standards.

Passengers affected by the disruption will receive refunds, with six individuals sustaining minor injuries and receiving medical attention. NSIB has launched a formal investigation to restore safe and efficient rail service on the route.
