NRC Warns of Rising Railway Vandalism in Plateau, Bauchi

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) issued a warning regarding the rising incidents of railway vandalism in Plateau and Bauchi States, which it described as a serious threat to public safety and economic activities. In a statement released on Saturday, NRC's Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, highlighted a specific incident on May 21, 2026, where a truck allegedly loaded with vandalized railway materials was found stuck near Kuru Science School in Plateau State.

The NRC reported that the vandalism has exposed the dangers posed by criminal elements involved in the illegal movement of railway materials. It noted that along the railway corridor in Zango, Bauchi State, railway slippers were completely removed, leaving behind disjointed pieces.

Dr. Kayode Opeifa, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NRC, condemned the persistent attacks on railway facilities, labeling them as sabotage against national progress.

He called for urgent collective action from security agencies, state governments, traditional rulers, and community leaders to protect railway infrastructure, which he emphasized is a strategic economic asset.
