NSC to Hold UK Trials for Nigerian Diaspora Athletes

The National Sports Commission (NSC) announced on Friday a plan to hold open trials for Nigerian diaspora athletes in the United Kingdom. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen talent identification and development within Nigerian sports.

The program is designed to integrate Nigerian-born athletes based abroad into the country's sports structure, creating clearer pathways for outstanding performers to join the national team. The trials are expected to attract 200 Nigerian athletes based abroad, scheduled for May.

Director General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, emphasized that the initiative aims to address the development gap for youth athletes aged 17 to 19 and ensure that no talent is overlooked. The trials will also support the newly introduced Nigerian Intermediate Games, which aim to bridge the gap between youth and elite competition.

The overall goal is to provide a clear development structure for athletes at every level, ensuring that Nigeria's future champions are nurtured effectively.
