Olopade Boosts Team Nigeria Ahead of World Athletics Relays

Bukola Olopade, the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), arrived in Gaborone, Botswana, to provide a significant morale boost to Team Nigeria as they prepare for the 2026 World Athletics Relays scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. The Nigerian contingent is in high spirits and fully prepared to compete in six relay events.

Their objectives include securing qualification slots for two major global competitions: the 2027 World Athletics Championship in Beijing and the 2026 World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest. Notably, sprint star Favour Ash is set to compete in the men's 4x100m relay and the mixed 4x100m relay, having recently returned from injury.

The support from key sports administrators, including Solomon Ogba, Vice President of the Nigerian Olympic Committee, and Tonobok Okowa, President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, underscores the commitment to Team Nigeria's success. The host nation, Botswana, aims to perform well against rivals South Africa and Belgium in the men's 4x400m event.
