Badminton Federation of Nigeria Hosts Strategic Retreat

The Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) concluded a two-day strategic retreat on May 13-14, 2026, in Abuja, aimed at repositioning badminton for sustainable growth. The retreat involved key stakeholders from the sports sector, including Habu Gumel, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, and Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission.

The focus was on developing a strategic framework that encompasses grassroots expansion and elite athlete pathways, technical advancements, gender inclusivity, and competitive structures. Shehu Dikko stressed the importance of aligning grassroots development with elite performance to enhance the economic value of sports in Nigeria.

Habu Gumel commended the BFN's leadership for its steady rise and emphasized the need for long-term planning to sustain progress. Franci Orbih, President of BFN, noted that the retreat aimed to unify stakeholders behind a common vision for badminton's development over the next four years.

The retreat is expected to produce a detailed strategic framework guiding the federation's development programs and competitive calendar.
