NSC Recovers N197 Billion for Shippers in 2025

The Nigerian Shipper Council (NSC) reported the recovery of N197 billion for shippers in 2025, alongside the resolution of 108 complaints. This information was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday in Lagos by the council's public relations officer, Rebecca Adamu.

Executive Secretary PiU Akutah noted that a total of 183 complaints were filed by port users across four quarters in 2025, with the second quarter recording the highest recovery amount of N175.8 billion, achieved through regulatory intervention. The council's recovery efforts reflect its commitment to protecting shipper interests and ensuring transparency within Nigeria's maritime sector.

Akutah emphasized the resolution of several complaints through an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) framework, addressing issues such as delays, deposit refunds, cargo damage, and missing documents. The NSC's interventions align with its statutory mandate to safeguard shipper interests and promote transparency in port operations.

The council was established in 1978 to oversee maritime trade and has been actively involved in resolving disputes in the port sector.
