NSC Recovers Over N197 Billion for Shippers in 2025

In 2025, the Nigerian Shipper Council (NSC) successfully recovered over N197 billion on behalf of shippers and port users, as disclosed by the Executive Secretary, Rebecca Adamu Akutah. Throughout the year, the council recorded a total of 183 complaints from port users, with significant engagement with stakeholders to seek regulatory intervention.

The complaints included issues related to arbitrary charges, delays in deposit refunds, and cargo damage. The NSC employed alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms to address these complaints, with 108 being successfully resolved.

In the first quarter, the council secured N62.8 million from 41 complaints, while the second quarter saw the highest recovery of N175.8 billion from 40 complaints. The third quarter resulted in a recovery of N2.059 billion from 46 complaints, and the fourth quarter exceeded N16.3 million from 56 complaints.

Akutah emphasized the council's commitment to protecting shippers' interests and ensuring transparency in port operations.
