NSCDC and Kogi Monarchs Unite Against Illegal Mining

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Ankpa Traditional Council in Kogi State have formed a partnership to address illegal coal mining in the Ankpa Local Government Area. This agreement was announced by the Commander of the Mining Marshals, ACC John Attah, during a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness Abubakar Ahmed, the Ejeh of Ankpa and Chairman of the Ankpa Traditional Council, on Thursday in Abuja.

Attah conveyed the goodwill of the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, and NSCDC Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, urging residents to support only licensed mining operators.

He emphasized the need for communities to report non-compliance with Community Development Agreements. Attah expressed concern over deaths linked to unregulated mining and reiterated the commitment to enforcing the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act.

The Ejeh of Ankpa pledged support for responsible mining practices, declaring zero tolerance for illegal mining and committing to collaborate with the NSCDC to ensure compliance with mining laws.
