NSCDC Seals Seven Illegal Mining Centres in Niger State

On June 12, 2026, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) conducted an operation in Kontagora, Niger State, sealing seven illegal mineral processing centres and arresting four suspects linked to these operations. The operation was part of efforts to curb illegal mining activities and restore order in Nigeria's solid mineral sector.

According to a statement by NSCDC Command Mine Marshal, John Onoja, the centres were found to be operating without the necessary approvals, violating the Nigerian Mining Act of 2007 and the Mining Regulations of 2011. Investigations revealed that the companies involved, including Al Yaman Global Concept Nigeria Limited, Simass Mining Company Limited, and YMJ Mining Company Limited, admitted to purchasing minerals without verifying the legality of their suppliers.

The operation resulted in the seizure of minerals, including monazite, iron, and zircon, valued at several million naira. The NSCDC emphasized the need for compliance with mining laws to eliminate illegal mining activities in the country.
