NSCDC Seals Seven Illegal Mineral Buying Centers in Niger

On June 12, 2026, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) conducted operations in Kontagora, Niger State, sealing seven illegal mineral buying centers. This action was prompted by credible intelligence suggesting that these centers were operating without the necessary approvals, violating the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act of 2007 and the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Regulations of 2011.

The operation led to the arrest of four suspects linked to the companies involved. Investigations revealed that the companies, including Al Yaman Global Concept Nigeria Limited and others, were purchasing minerals such as monazite without valid licenses.

The NSCDC's Mine Marshal Command, led by John Attah Onoja, reported that the seized minerals, including monazite, iron, and zircon, were valued at several million naira. The crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to sanitize the solid mineral sector and dismantle illegal mining networks in Nigeria.
