NSCDC Secures Life Sentence for Sexual Offender in Kwara

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, reported handling over 100 gender-related cases in the first half of 2026, which included securing a life imprisonment sentence against a convicted sexual offender. State Commandant Abbas Mohammed noted that the Gender Unit recorded 36 domestic violence cases, with 12 under mediation. Additionally, the command dealt with 19 child custody disputes, resolving 15, while four remain pending.

The command also received 38 child abandonment cases, resolving six, with ongoing investigations for the rest. Furthermore, nine abduction cases were reported, leading to the rescue and reunion of four victims with their families.

Currently, eight cases involving rape, sexual assault, and child molestation are before the courts. Mohammed emphasized the NSCDC's commitment to justice for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence and urged residents to report such cases promptly.
