ICPC Convicts NSCDC Deputy Commandant for Employment Fraud

Sani Lawal, the Deputy Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), was convicted of employment fraud by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The conviction resulted from a plea bargain agreement affirmed by Justice A.A.

Bawale of Katsina State High Court No. 3. The court found Lawal guilty of corruptly obtaining ₦920,000 from two complainants under the false pretense of securing employment for them in the NSCDC.

Although initially arraigned on an eight-count charge, the conviction was entered on two counts in accordance with the plea bargain terms. Lawal was sentenced to pay a fine of ₦100,000.

The ICPC reiterated its commitment to combating corruption, particularly fraudulent recruitment schemes, and warned the public to be cautious of individuals demanding money for employment in government agencies, emphasizing that recruitment follows established procedures.
