NSCDC Urges Officers to Uphold Human Rights Standards

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Cross River State Command, issued a warning to its officers against human rights abuses and unlawful arrests during a two-day training on criminal justice administration held at the command headquarters in Calabar. The training, which concluded at the weekend, was facilitated by the Corps’ Director of Legal Services, Aminu Kayode Alilu.
It aimed to enhance professional conduct and ensure adherence to legal requirements in security operations. Participants included area commanders, divisional officers, intelligence and investigation operatives, legal officers, station officers, cell guards, and tactical commanders.
Alilu emphasized that violations of due process during arrests and interrogations could undermine prosecutions and infringe on citizens' rights. He stated that effective security operations must respect the law, professionalism, accountability, and human dignity.
Cross River State Commandant Okarazu Chima expressed gratitude to Commandant General Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi for prioritizing legal capacity development and warned against avoidable legal errors.
