NSCIA Investigates Walida Abdulhadi and SSS Operative

The Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has initiated an inquiry into the controversy involving Walida Abdulhadi, a young Muslim woman from Jigawa State, and Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi, a State Security Service (SSS) operative. The case arose after allegations surfaced that Onyewuenyi abducted Walida, who was reportedly a minor, and forcibly converted her to Christianity, resulting in her pregnancy.

Walida's family claims she was born in 2008, making her a minor during the events. However, Walida asserts she was born in 2004, thus being 19 years old when she moved to Abuja in 2023.

She denies any abduction or forced conversion, stating she was already an adult and met Onyewuenyi voluntarily. The situation escalated when Walida refused to return to her family, citing threats from her uncle.

The SSS currently provides her protection, while her family has demanded her release, accusing the SSS of anti-Islam conduct. NSCIA Secretary General Ishaq Oloyed confirmed that the council is engaging relevant stakeholders to address the matter.
