NSDC Launches Training to Boost Nigeria's Sugar Output

The National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) has successfully concluded its pioneer cohort of a residential training program as part of the National Sugar Master Plan (NSMP 2.0). This initiative aims to transform Nigeria's industrial landscape and achieve a target of 2 million metric tons of domestic sugar production.

Kamar Bakrin, the NSDC Executive Secretary/CEO, stated that the program is essential for developing a new caliber of specialists to drive efficiency and profitability across the sugar value chain. The training focuses on core empirical pillars, including land preparation, advanced irrigation, and high-yield seed cane production.

The pioneer cohort consisted of 39 professionals, with a second cohort of 41 trainees scheduled to commence on July 13, 2026. The program emphasizes practical experience through field exercises and collaboration with industry experts to address real-world challenges in sugar production.
