NSE President Advocates Holistic Solutions for Power Sector

During a webinar organized by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Mr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, the NSE President, called for a holistic approach to tackle the challenges facing Nigeria's power sector.

He attributed the sector's decline to long-standing political interference and emphasized the need for innovative collaboration and visionary leadership. The webinar's theme focused on rebooting Nigeria's power sector for sustainable development, highlighting the critical role of Nigerian engineers.

Guest speaker Dr. Meyen Etukudo, a special advisor to the Akwa Ibom governor on energy, pointed out the significant challenges in the power sector, particularly the heavy reliance on thermal generation, which leads to environmental degradation.

He advocated for increased investment in renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydropower to reduce dependence on thermal generation. Both speakers stressed the need for engineers to take proactive roles in policy advisory and project management to influence sustainable energy solutions.
