NSIB Advances Investigation into Warri-Itakpe Train Derailment

The National Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), led by Director General Captain Alex Badeh Jr., is conducting a full-scale inquiry into the Warri-Itakpe train derailment. The investigation commenced at the accident scene, with the involvement of Mr.

Kayode Opeifa, Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, and Engr. Funsho Adebiyi, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transport.

The NSIB is documenting the accident site, examining affected rail equipment and infrastructure, and gathering operational technical information through interviews with personnel connected to the train operation. The bureau expressed condolences to the families affected by the tragedy and is committed to a safety-focused investigation, which will not assign blame but will identify causal factors and recommend measures to enhance rail transport safety in Nigeria.

Upon completion, the NSIB will publish its findings and safety recommendations. The bureau acknowledged the cooperation of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, the Federal Ministry of Transport, and the Nigerian Air Force in facilitating the investigation.
