NSIB Investigates Warri-Itakpe Train Derailment Incident

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) is actively investigating the train derailment that occurred along the Warri-Itakpe rail corridor on June 8, 2026. The investigation is led by Captain Alex Badeh Jr., who visited the accident scene shortly after the incident was reported.

He was accompanied by Mr. Kayode Opeifa, Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, and Engr.

Funsho Adebiyi, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transport. The NSIB is focused on recovering critical evidence and conducting interviews with relevant personnel to ascertain the cause of the derailment.

They are examining the affected rail equipment and infrastructure while gathering operational technical information. Captain Badeh expressed condolences to the families of the victims and reassured the public that the investigation will be thorough and evidence-based, aiming to enhance railway safety in Nigeria.

The NSIB acknowledged the cooperation of various agencies, including the Nigerian Railway Corporation and the Federal Ministry of Transport, throughout the investigation process.
