NSITF's ECS Restores Dignity to Injured Workers

Oluwaseun Faleye, the Managing Director of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), highlighted the role of the Employee Compensation Scheme (ECS) in restoring hope and dignity to Nigerian workers who suffer injuries in the line of duty. This statement was made during a prosthetic limb presentation for ten beneficiaries in Abuja.

Faleye noted that workplace accidents often lead to not only physical injuries but also emotional trauma and uncertainty about the future. He explained that the NSITF's ECS goes beyond statutory compensation, reflecting a commitment to restoring confidence and preserving the dignity of affected workers.

Specific cases were cited, including Daniel Etim, who lost an arm in a workplace accident in May 2024, and Festu Okpara, who lost a palm in 2015. The scheme covered Etim's medical expenses and provided him with a prosthetic arm, enabling him to regain function and confidence.

Okpara received a silicon prosthetic hand, which helped reduce his psychological burden and allowed him to interact freely in public. Faleye concluded that the ECS remains a critical social safety net for workers in both the public and private sectors.
